MINUTES OF 5th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Date: April 3rd, 2005 Location: Home of Robert Brierley - 3 Nicholsdale Rd Present: Robert Brierley (president), Bob Strickland, Barrie Gallacher, Chris Walta, Eleanor Stephenson, June Strickland, Rosemary Buchanan Apologies: John Cott, Jim Breen, Bob Stensholt 1. OPENING Robert welcomed all present to the 5th Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Back Creek. 2. REPORTS ? Minutes of the 4th AGM of the FOBC were presented. Bob and Barrie moved minutes to be accepted. Minutes accepted. ? President delivered the president's report. Copy of the President's report was presented to the meeting and will be made available on the FOBC website. Eleanor moved the report be accepted and seconded by June. Report accepted by all. ? Treasurer's report was delivered by Bob Strickland. Copy of the Treasurer's report was presented to the meeting and will be made available on the FOBC website. John Spence was thanked for auditing the Financial Report and we hope that he will be willing to continue in this role for the next year. Chris and Barrie moved that the report be accepted. Report was accepted by the meeting. 3. BUSINESS OF THE MEETING - ELECTION OF COMMITTEE ? All members of the 2004 FOBC committee will continue in their roles on the committee ? Rosemary will be a new member on the committee 4. OTHER BUSINESS ? Janyce from the Parks and Gardens Department in the City of Boroondara will be in the creek on Thursday April 7 at 8.00am to walk through the area to assess priorities for the coming year. All are invited to be there with Robert to meet with Janyce. ? Parks and Gardens Department in the City of Boroondara have heard form the Balwyn Rotary club that the Rotary Club of Balwyn is donating a park bench. The suggestion is to install it at the Cornell St end of the creek facing the creek. Council has approved to install a notice board also in the same area. Robert brought up the suggestion that a receptacle be attached to the Notice Board that could hold some FOBC Newsletters for interested people to collect. All present were delighted to have the park bench and the Notice Board for the creek. ? Recruitment of a pool of working bee contributors. Strategies were discussed to determine what could be done to develop a pool of people who would be interested to contribute to weeding, planting and mulching work at the regular working bees.. It was suggested that it would be good if the committee members could be scheduled to coordinate the work of volunteers. Rosemary asked what routine promotion of our work is planned in our projects. Some discussion took place suggesting that more could be done to focus on promotion to combine our efforts in attracting the pool of volunteers required to get the work done. Interested person or people were invited to take a role in this. ? It was discussed again that local school groups could be interested in developing some association with our work from an environmental perspective that was connected to some curriculum initiative. Robert has a power point presentation to use in talking to groups about our work. ? Increased membership and subscription was discussed and thanks goes to members who have been working on this. ? Eleanor raised the possibility of a 'Bird Walk' in the creek for interested people. It was suggested that this could be of interest also to school groups particularly if some curriculum support material was available for this.
