MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING Date: 20th September, 2005 Location: Home of Eleanor Stephenson Present: Robert Brierley, Eleanor Stephenson, Barrie Gallacher, John Cott,, Bob Strickland Apologies: Chris Walta Absent: Jim Breen, Rosemary Buchanan 1. OPENING Robert chaired the meeting. 2. BUSINESS OF THE MEETING 2.1 LAST WORKING BEE - Sunday September 18th. Poorly attended. However some worthwhile progress made clearing dead foliage and willow shoots, and terracing part of a steep section near the Quinton Rd shortcut. Several Carey Grammar students were there to help. In future we need to be sure there is a registration form completed at working bees. 2.2 NEXT WORKING BEE - Sunday October 16th. Several "Elderly Citizens" expected following some publicity in the Burwood Bulletin. The project for them will be to plant out the retaining wall. Barrie was asked to obtain 200 suitable plants. "ParkWorks" to be organised in the near future.by Robert B via the Council to plant out the steep parts below the path, and an order for a further 500 plants was required for this project. Planting there would complete our obligation to Melbourne Water for their $6,000 grant. (2003). 2.3 NOTICE BOARD Bob had contacted Heinz K. bringing him up to date on the Nat. Tree Day etc and to ask whether he had been able to follow up re the Notice Board. Heinz was going away on Aug 18 for 5 weeks but undertook to talk to the Council Officers about a notice board when he got back. He sent his greetings to all of us. 2.4 TREASURER'S REPORT Most Grant money held now is not required to be spent until August 2006, and $5,000 has been placed on term deposit until Nov. 26 2005 with the Bendigo Bank @ 5.25%. Currently the Bank balance is $1,374. 2.5 RAFFLE Raffle would now be drawn at the working be on October 16. We will try to ensure Heinz K is there to draw the winning ticket. 2.6 INVENTORY A report titled "An inventory and Assessment of Indigenous Vegetation in Boroondara" is currently being prepared for the Council by Dr Graeme Lorimer. A draft of the section on Back Creek has been received by Eleanor S. and was passed on to Robert. 2.7 NEXT NEWSLETTER Robert expected to have the next newsletter out in by 24th September. 2.8 NEXT MEETING Tuesday October 11th at 8.00 p.m. at home of Chris Walta - 29a Cornell St. Camberwell FRIENDS OF BACK CREEK September 2005 Minutes prepared by Bob Strickland
